ARE PARENTS PUTTTING THEIR CHILD AT RISK?

Everyday, millions of parents are becoming more active in the world of social media such as facebook. What started off as a great way to communicate with family has ended up being a no safe zone for children. Unfortunately, it is NOT the children who are mostly depriving their safety from them, but their parents.

It has become a classic cycle, a person's child does well or looks extremely cute in a photo and we blast it out on our facebook wall or to those people who pretend they care. There is a deep assumption that what you value is what everyone else wants to see. As much as we would like to think this is accurate information, it is not.

 How are parents
 putting their child at risk?

There are several ways parents are putting their child at risk. Whenever a person post personal pictures, those photos are no longer private. This means that anyone can have access to their photos, including peophiles, rapists, murderers and people you would never want to even walk by in this facet of life. These are people who prey on the young and innocent are often people that you do not know, but trusted family members and friends. This is why during a traumatic experience (i.e. murder case)  the "culprits"  often are the family members and friends.

This  is not the first time Redefining the Face of Beauty has taken a strong stance on the exposure of young children and it will probably not be the last. If you check your local missing child alert, you will notice that the child was always last seen with a person they knew. Many of these cases go unsolved and the harsh reality is that, the longer time it takes to locate a missing child the higher the possibility that they are no longer alive.

Every time you or your friend post a gorgeous photo of your child, other people have access to it. However, most parents do not stop at that. They constantly publically gloat about what their child's favorite food is or how they made the honor roll again. These are all great achievements for any child to obtain and it is something that THEY need to be rewarded for PERSONALLY.  Unfortunately, many of these lovely comments that are said about a child are never received by the child. In fact, it is not uncommon that a child will hardly ever be complimented directly from their parents. Some will be the last to know, if ever. A child in this position is in danger zone, since they naturally seek the attention of their parents. You teach your child not to talk to strangers, but if he or she is approached by someone who knows what school they go to, their parents name, their favorite color, etc, then automatically the child will let their guard down. In the whole scheme of things, unless you are a public icon, there are general forms of information that should not be given out.

This article is not suggesting that people never show off the accomplishments of their child, however, as a parent, one of the biggest goals in life is to protect your child from things that they are too naive to understand. And of course,  if you are a parent and you fall into this category of being the proud parent, who are you really showing off? Could it possibly be that you may be using some of your child's accomplishments as a way to gain attention for yourself? After all, you are a wonderful parent and EVERYONE deserves to notice YOU, even at the cost of your child's safety.....RIGHT?
