HOW TO REDEFINE YOUR CAREER!

In today's economy it should not be shocking to find many people who are unemployed.  Some people have come to the point where they have been searching for years, while others hop right back on the band wagon and appear to get jobs here and there. At this point, many individuals are wondering what makes these people, who may not be the best worker, continue to get job after job? Why would an employer continue to hire these people. Why would that company settle for them,  especially when they can have you, who is obviously has better skills, is motivated and will show up to work without any lame excuses?

Fortunately, there is an answer for this question. The reason why some people, despite their skills continue to hit the jack pock is because they portray a very high level of confidence.

What is confidence?

  1. The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust: "we had every confidence in the staff".
  2. The state of feeling certain about the truth of something.

Synonyms include: trust - faith - reliance - belief - credit - credence

Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident (Psalm 27:3."

HOW TO APPEAR MORE CONFIDENT!

  • Stand up straight. Do not look like you are constipated but stand with your head held high. This will ensure that people are confident about you as a person  and whatever qualities that you are trying to get people to acknowledge will get the attention it deserves.
  • Speak very clear. Do not spit or mumble. Mumbling is an automatic sign of uncertainty. A person who appears confident, is generally well-spoken.
  • Eye contact is a must. No one is suggesting that you throw love daggers at every person you see, however, not recognizing the importance of eye contact can result in a failure for you to communicate with others. It is difficult to want to hire someone you cannot speak to.
  • Never talk about yourself 24/7. This behaviour can make you appear desperate for compliments. When a  confident person speaks, he or she already knows who they are and what they have. Their life is not contingent upon the negative words of ONE person.
  • Listen to another person WITHOUT interrupting them.
  • Always take an interest in what your peers are  doing with his or her life.
  • Do not appear envious, Be content with what you have AND...
  • SMILE! Because nothing shows people the glowing light of hope, faith and diligence then a fantastic smile. This will also give you the appearance of being more youthful, fun, and overall, just a pleasure to be around.
SIDE NOTE: If you start to feel as though you life is spiraling out of control and your negative feelings are starting to take over your life, please seek counseling immediately. There are several other reasons why you may be lacking confidence, many which are not listed in this article. Put your mental health first (See below for International Helplines).

    BRIEF FACTS ABOUT CONFIDENCE:
  • Most people who appear confident have certain areas in their life that they lack confidence. They are just extremely strategic about who to reveal that side of them.
  • A confident person will feel uncomfortable around someone who does not share good communication skills.
  • Not feeling confident can lead you into a very bad situation. There are many people in this world (including abusers in relationships)  who enjoy taking advantage of people they may assume is ignorant.
  • There is a strong correlation between having the inability to appear confident and low-self-esteem. Self-esteem is a major reason why people will openly stress their self-doubt. In creating self doubt (or speaking it) you are creating it. Watch what you say and guard your words with your heart. Sometimes gaining self-confidence is simply learning the benefit of keeping one's mouth closed.
  •
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue (Proverbs 17:28)."

WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO HIRE THAT TYPE OF PERSON?

Appearing confident (even when you are not) allows people to feel more comfortable in hiring you. An employer is thrilled to find the right man or woman for the job who KNOWS what they are doing. If you hesitate, THEY hesitate. Being confident is not just to get a job and keep one, it can be used in EVERY aspect of your life. When you are fluent with you words and pretend to know a little extra, people will flock. The next time you go to an interview or even a barbecue with some old friends, practice sounding confident. Record yourself on video camera, do a mock interview. Whatever it takes, this is the one MAJOR skill in life that if you do not have it, your will never go far.  If you do not believe in yourself or your product, NO ONE ELSE WILL!

Good Luck, and God bless. Always remember that CONFIDENCE is sexy, ARROGANCE is not!

"Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised (Hebrews 10:35-36),"
