.For those people who are unaware, one of the latest trends for East Asians has been the Afro-Perm. The Afro perm hairstyle originates from East Asian culture being influenced and intrigued by Black culture.  Some East Asians have been gravitating towards  Reggae Perms and also dread perms, cornrows and braids in general. Historically, most people will go to the salon to have their hairstylist help them achieve the sleek straight look. This is actually completely opposite. A growing number of Asians from that portion of the country are going from straight to curly. The desired result of this is for the person to have their hair resemble an Afro. In order to achieve this look the  hair stylist uses perming rods and roller.  A perm rod is a small plastic curler used for perming the hair. These rods come in different sizes depending on how small or large you want your "permanant''  curls. They must be used with thin squares of paper while your hair is being rolled. A professional hair stylist will generally color code the rods to allow them to finish thoroughly and quickly. Below is a brief example of what a perm rod looks like and their color code meanings.
