  • A common condition that affects 99.9% of children, teens and young adults.
  • Typically the person can be nervous and excited at the same time about the following:
    • "I have new teachers, what will they be like?"
    • "I haven't seen my friends in forever! I NEED to look like a had a great summer!"
    • "What is everyone going to think about me this year?"
    • "I want to be noticed, not the brunt of getting teased!"
  • As you grow up (or if you are already an adult), BTSJ, does not change, however it becomes know as BACK TO STUPID JOB!
 COMMON BTSJ PROBLEMS TREE:
"I want to fit in."
"I have to lose a few pounds!"
"Totally need a boyfriend or girlfriend this year!"
"This is my last/first day of the beginning of something new.
 (i.e. high school, college, job market next year!"
"I am afraid of getting teased because I will not have the best clothing!"
"WHAT SHOULD I WEAR ON MY FIRST DAY?"
"I HAVE to look fantastic!"
"I NEED TO BE THE BEST!"


EXPLANATION:
  • The biggest problem that people have is the inability to realize that regardless of who you are, these insecurities exist within everyone during certain times of their life.
    • The popular classmates are nervous because they feel the pressure to "stay" popular.
    • The pretty guy/girl, is stressed because they have to remain the "prettiest."
    • If you were an athlete last year, you better be good this year.
    • YOU HAVE TO BE THE BEST!
"I want to fit in!"
SOLUTION # ONE:
  • Recognize that this information is partially true. Yes, you will want to find nice clothes to start off the school year, but relax, what you wear on the first day will not be remembered forever. If your peers tease you, then wait 24hrs, generally they will have something else new to entertain themselves about.
  • These feelings are a result of the "competition" factor. Competition happens when you compare what you have with someone else.

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength

  • REALITY OF COMPETITION:
    •  It is an unrealistic view of another person's life.
    • It creates jealousy and envy because you believe that the person(s) that you are competing with is happy because they have something that you feel that you do not possess.
    • The person you are competing against is in the same mind frame as you.
    • MANY PEOPLE DO NOT GROW OUT OF THIS STAGE! If you do not learn to STOP COMPARING, you will live your entire life filled with strife, envy and severe unhappiness.
    • Most people exaggerate their accomplishments and feeling of happiness, just to make YOU believe that they are worth competing against.
    • We all have many talents, constantly looking and dreaming about the talents of other people will only allow yourself to miss all of the gifts YOU were given.
    • The only way to avoid all of this drama is to STOP COMPETING! FOR EXAMPLE...

IF YOUR FRIEND SAYS: "I had the most wonderful vacation this summer! I know you said you went to some beach, but we actually went to the best beach in the world!"

YOUR COMPETITIVE ANSWER: "That is so cool. But I did go to a wonderful beach, BUT, I forgot to tell you how much my parents spent on me!"

HOW YOU SHOULD RESPOND IF YOU WANT TO STOP COMPETITION:
"I am really you had a great summer! On my way to lunch, I would love to hear about it!"

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good







 

THE ONLY WAY TO STOP COMPETITION IS TO NOT COMPETE....
A COMPETITION CAN NOT EXIST IF THERE IS NO COMPETITOR!

SOLUTION #TWO:
  • Understand that if you do not have the nicest clothes, that is fine. Many young adults are cruel to others because they are insecure about themselves.
  • AND IF YOU ARE A PERSON WHO IS BULLYING SOMEONE BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY WEAR.....
WHO BUYS YOUR CLOTHES FOR YOU?
NOT YOU!
  • Kids tease their classmates about their clothing without acknowledging that their classmate may not come from a household that can afford the "nicest" clothing.
  • Maybe their parents will not allow them to wear certain things.
  • AS A MINOR, YOU DO NOT HAVE CONTROL MOST OF THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO YOU.
  • WITH THE CURRENT JOB LAYOFFS, BE CAREFUL WHO YOU MAKE FUN OF, THE PROBABILITY OF YOUR CARETAKER LOSING THEIR JOB IS EXTREMELY HIGH AND I DOUBT YOU WOULD WANT ANYONE TO TREAT YOU CRUEL...
  • The kid you speak bad about, may look that way because their home life is unstable.
    • Parents divorce, dealing with abuse, depression, mental illnesses or severe low self-esteem.
  • Confidence is "beautiful". Life is more than being superficial, of course that is impossible for most teenagers to understand because this is your life. What makes you ugly is being ugly towards other people.
  • Respect is gained by being who you are, however, if you are still being teased because you have chosen to be who you are....

THIS WILL HAPPEN THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE. PEOPLE CAN BECOME ENVIOUS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO HAVE THE COURAGE TO BE DIFFERENT.
Bullies are cruel to those who have qualities that they feel they are lacking....
