HAVING A GOOD BRA IS HEALTHY? "How to measure your sizes!"

Wearing a bra that fits is not just for beauty purposes, it is also for health reasons. Many women who do not wear the appropriate bra size may find themselves with severe musculoskeletal problems, including pain in the breasts, neck and back. If you are not wearing the correct bra size, you are not alone. Studies have shown that a startling 7 out of 10 women are not wearing the correct bra size, which is resulting in unnecessary pain, discomfort, bruises, cuts and  respiratory problems. This is partially due to the misinformation that most of the support from the bra that you wear should come from the straps. This is not accurate, most of the support should not come from your bra straps, but where your backband is. The symptoms above is a clear indication that your bra may be too small.

However, if an individual is wearing a bra that is too big for her, the breast may occur saggy, making the woman appear bigger and older than what she actually  is. Some doctors are are starting to believe that a bad bra can become bad news. It may increase your chances of developing breast cancer because of all of the unnecessary pinching that occurs while wearing a non fitted bra. Of course, this is speculation for now. Wearing the appropriate bra size can not only make your posture look better, but it can help keep a person healthier.

In essence, a good bra is not only for a healthy posture and to eliminate pain, but it is also essential to be fitted appropriately for your health.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR BRA DOES NOT FIT?

As mentioned earlier, a bra that fits will feel comfortable. A fitted bra should not do the following:
  • Make your figure look saggy.
  • Pinch, pull or have unnecessary pain.
  • Create bruises and bumps.
  • Make it difficult to breathe or move in various positions.

TAILORS TAPE measure
If you have any of these symptoms, it is time to recognize that you are probably not wearing the appropriate bra. In order to ensure that the bra you choose fits, you must first be measured appropriately with a tailors tap measure, featured in the image to the left,  directly under your bust line (while breathing outwardly). The number that is measured should be rounded to the nearest whole number. A perfect fit should include the following:

  • Band
  • Cup
  • Underwire
  • Center Panel
  • Straps
